“I think she said he called and told her that he loved her,” Wright said. The mother received a phone call around 10 a.m. Monday and became “hysterical” and fearful, Wright said, though she wasn’t certain of the caller’s identity. Wright said she spent Sunday night at the home of Owens' mother. "He's very nice," said Wright, who said family members learned of Owens' death around 2:30 p.m. Gail Wright, 57, of Barrington, who identified herself Owen's cousin, described the suspect as "a humble guy." Police tried to negotiate with him by telephone for an extended period before the suspect was shot, the prosecutor said. Owens is believed to have had a relationship of some sort with one of the women, Fiore said. He said a suspect entered the warehouse and barricaded himself in a room with "two young women." at the sprawling facility at 200 Birch Creek Road, Fiore said. The barricade situation, initially reported as an active shooter, began around 8:30 a.m. Owens, who had been armed with a handgun, died at the scene, the account said.
